Get Involved!

I like to encourage my students to participate in extra-curricular events whenever they have time. I especially like to encourage to get involved with fine arts events on campus, and I occasionally give an extra credit point or two to students who participate in these events.

I'd like to particularly encourage you to participate in some of the events coming up in the next two weeks.
  • NSU/ACT play (Working).  Performances are Wednesday through Saturday (February 11-14) at 7:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.  All shows are in the Capitol Theater (downtown Aberdeen).  Shows are free with your NSU ID.
  • Suchon Quintet.  One performance only on Wednesday, February 11.  Performance starts at 7:30 p.m. in Krickac Auditorium.  Free.
  • Black History Month presentation: The Dangers of Repeating History.  Tuesday, February 17 2-4 p.m. in the Centennial Rooms (NSU Student Center).  Free.
  • Shakespeare at the Symphony.  One performance only on Saturday, February 28 at the Aberdeen Civic (7:30 p.m.).
For extra credit, click on the "comment" link here.  Note which activity you went to and what you think the highlight of that particular activity was, i.e., the thing you found most memorable, most enjoyable, or most worthwhile.

  1. I attended the Suchon Wind Quintet. The most amazing thing to me was just watching the performers work together and how well their sound blended. It's really neat to have the opportunities to see these world class musicians perform here at NSU. I take as many opportunities to go to things like this as I can. The bassoon player was exquisite. That is a rather difficult instrument to play, and she made it look easy...

  2. I attended the Suchon Wind Quintet. I found this quintet to be really interesting to watch and listen to. They were very gifted musicians. My favorite piece was by the composer Francis Poulenc. It transitioned between different styles of music, and the flute player did these crazy trill/shrill noises from his flute. I found it very interesting that the current flute and clarinet's fathers were part of the original orchestra when it first was created in the 1960s. I enjoyed the opportunity to watch this group perform.

  3. I went to the NSU/ACT play (Working) on Wednesday night at 7:30. It was a short play about the present day work force. I liked it because it was very relatable. The most interesting thing was that it was a competition styled play, where they set up everything on stage and the set up and tear down had to be under ten minutes and the actual show part had to be under 60 minutes. After the play they did a Q&A session and it was interesting to hear the actors own thoughts about the play.

  4. The play "Working" has a few memorable parts. The characters are all representing modern day jobs. I love the part where they are talking about representing everybody who works on a building from designers to the construction workers. Everyone has a story to tell. The ending is fabulous with the construction of the Sears Tower. Overall, it is a great performance!

  5. I also attended the play "Working" on Friday night. It is a nice show to condense in an hour because it contains no overall plot line, but multiple stories of many people. It was weird seeing the show verses being on the stage since I'm a musical theatre major, but it was nice seeing all the hard work and dedication my friends had while doing this show.

  7. I played percussion for the Shakespeare at the Symphony concert. It was fun to play the Westside Story Medley; I get to play all the fun instruments in the back

  8. I went to the Suchon Quintet and it was wonderful. Being a clarinet player myself it was amazing to watch a professional player. I also went to the Shakespeare at the Symphony and it was great. I especially enjoyed the Westside Story Medley piece.
